It had weight, it made the Fourth's sacrifice meaningful, it didn't retroactively make a lot of the previous hosts seem lesser. I kind of miss the stakes that having the Nine Tails be truly evil gave Naruto was genuinely sacrificing himself to save the world in a way, rather than just be some metaphorical jail cell for a grumpy guy that could be reasoned with should anyone actually bother to talk to him.
When all it wanted was to literally kill all of mankind, and not because it's been abused, but because it was literally just a demon that wanted to create human torment for it's own enjoyment. I am not referring to a noble beast or something that can be bargained with, but a genuine, chaotic evil demon that could not nor should not be reasoned with.
